-The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia-
First it was Michael Brown and the case of “Assholes in Missouri, Part Deux”, now the wires of the professional prostitute media are prepping us with the gasoline and matches case of one Eric Garner who was on live video choked to death by the shining knight example of one of the NYPD’s finest. Two cases in which two African American males were snuffed out like candles by the often questioned excessive force utilized by law enforcement who supporters will say were justified in use of said force.
While these same officers are often trained in “non-lethal methods”, it’s a few and far between case of such instances where the shield of enforcing the law, becomes a blanket of covering evident guilt and wrong doing. The ‘thin blue line’, it seems, is becoming the line of black and blue citizens beaten within an inch of their lives and their lives and rights violated in the ‘just cause’ of serving and protecting.
Scrolling through the multitude of liberal, conservative, and libertarian news stories I access on a daily basis; the one story that sprang to my attention and seems to have incited no riots or the prototype race baiters in the name of Jesus/Allah (i.e. the assholes known as Farrakhan, Jackson, and Sharpton) is the strange, twisted, and loathing case of the murder of one David Hooks:
Hooks a successful Georgia businessman, was the victim of a robbery prior to his murder on Sept 24th. An informant, later to be determined an individual who was in fact one of the robber’s, made claim’s that there was 20 grams of meth in the Hook’s home. Rodney Garrett, claimed he took a plastic bag from a pickup truck at Hook’s residence, believing there was a large amount of cash inside the bag. He returned again taking another automobile and stated according to the warrant used by police that the bag contained meth instead of cash. Claiming he feared for his life, Garrett turned himself into police.
Getting a warrant on the night of the 24th of September, police dressed in black hoods and camouflage executed a no knock raid. Hook’s wife, believing that the same burglars had returned to the residence once again awoke David who, armed, went down the stairs towards the door. It was at some point immediately after that police fired 16 to 18 shots from multiple firearms, killing Mr. Hooks.
Worth noting, is that neither the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, nor the police, in a 44 hour search of the property found any contraband or narcotics in the residence or the property.
Of even further note, is that the construction company Hooks owned performed work and services on military bases. It is also known for a fact the Mr. Hooks was subject to and underwent numerous background checks by state and federal authorities including the Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Upon passing each of these, he was granted a security clearance which allowed him to work on these military bases. He had no prior arrest, conviction, or was under any investigation for being a known drug user or distributor.
In a time and age of the power of the video camera, where the ability for law enforcement under the Patriot Act/National Defense Authorization Act enables cross communication and monitoring of cell phones, e-mails, social media, and other formats utilized by you and I, John and Jane Q Public, one has to ask,
“Just what in the blue hell is going on with the law enforcement community?”
For all the reports and support of the “good guy/gal” cops I hear supporters in the law enforcement community speaking out on, where are the Blue Knight’s at? Are they in the shadows? Is loyalty to the thin blue line mantra a trump over the service and protection they take an oath to defend “We The People?”
Do we have too many Barbra Gordon’s and Bruce Wayne’s ignoring the evident bat signal that something is seriously wrong with an out of control, Bill of Rights shredding, jack booted, in black, Gestapo police officer- performing the services of judge, jury, and in many instances executioner- while knowing full well a jury or prosecuting attorney will extend the unwritten and unspoken ‘good ol’ boy police protection exception’ to let him walk away Scott-free?
Make no mistake, the issue of militarized police power and abuse transcends race, religion, ethnicity, and politics. It’s no longer the deep south of the 60’s with fire hoses, and ‘Bubba’ the rebel flag patch wearing officer speaking to the humble Negro with the title of “boy”. This isn’t the beginning of the gay rights movement and the execution age of one Harvey Milk, or the riot gassing of 9/11 Truther’s anymore.
No.
It’s the awakening of state power; whose sole determination is to remind you, the bread and circus distracted bastards, of who really runs the show. It’s the New Kids on the Block in badges and boots trying out their new toys on the people they swore to protect and serve. And it’s a media in need of an enema to report the facts, and evidence of prostituted justice where the mantra of “nothing to fear, nothing to hide” has become what they fear to call it, presumption of guilt before innocence.
I don’t expect vigilantes to do the job that some of the men and women of character and honor who do patrol our streets should and can do. At the same time we shouldn’t give a whitewash to these officers who remain silent in the face of such acts a free pass either, but until the media at large and the rising army of independent journalist of Ink and Rage rise up and refuse to shut up on the face of such cold blooded murders and abuse, I will continue to be reminded of the legendary words of the Dark Poet himself, Bill Hicks, who in describing state power and abuse stated in not so many words
“You are free, to do as we tell you!”
Will Georgia and Staten Island burn? I doubt it. Will the evident abuse and corruption of law enforcement gangs run amuck? You can bet your ass it will, until we the people rise to stop it, and the New Journalist becomes a voice that can no longer be ignored.
If “hands up don’t shoot” is the cry for Michael Brown and “don’t choke me, bro” the rally for Eric Garner then what will be the message for David Hooks?
And who will be the voice and messenger to carry it?
