Comedian Kathy Griffin released her photos taken by famous photographer Tyler Shields of a decapitated head of President Donald Trump with a good amount of backlash on Tues May 30 2017 with an astounding amount of backlash that Griffin says, “what has happened to me has never happened ever in the history of this great country, which is a sitting President of the United States and his grown children and the First Lady are personally trying to ruin my life forever. FOREVER.”
That quote comes from her public apology…BIG MISTAKE!!!
That was her first mistake, holding a press conference to apologize to President Trump and his corrupt family. That is one of the first rules in business that Trump himself would have learned. That is his motto as a businessman. Admitting to being wrong is the very first thing you learn in business. It shows weakness.
Apologies in business also open the door for more costs. And in Griffin’s case, maybe her career. Trump is like a scavenging shark smelling the red-headed blood in the water. The second that Kathy Griffin apologized she lost her whole footing. Trump won’t apologize for anything, even if there is a good reason.
The other mistake that she made was by saying that a President has never gone after an artist for what they have done.
I think we have forgotten about the infamous rapper Ice Tea and his band Body Count, when Ice Tea started yelling the title “Cop Killer” and our then President Bush decided that his art and rage were very much indecent and riot inciting.
That is just one incident with an artist going after a public official. There was John Lennon getting deported from the country and of course Charlie Chaplin who became an enemy of the FBI and eventually not allowed back in the US.
Those three examples alone, but they certainly didn’t apologize for their actions. They weren’t going to, because they knew in their heart of hearts that they were right.
Griffin’s apology makes her look weak and attention starved. It doesn’t make her look like a crusader for what is truly right in this country.
During the press conference Griffin also stated that, “he (Trump) is never going to stop, you know him. You know him.”
She is right there. President Trump won’t stop until it is squashed and dead. That is the type of tenacious, ruthless, driven man Trump is. He attacked everything he has done with the same determination and lack of morals; that is why he is as successful as he has been.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against Kathy Griffin and what she tried to convey, I am an artist of sort as well. I whole heartedly believe in the First Amendment. I also don’t find her that funny either though.
That is beside the point though. At the beginning, I was like, “Good for her.” After the apology, she seems like nothing more than a comedian who needed some publicity for her declining career. That is what that apology said to the whole world.
If you are going to make a statement through spoken word, writing, or visual you need to stand by your convictions. Because the fact is that if you make a statement like that you better believe that you will have some damage control to do.
You can go pretty far back into time and find backlash. If Julius Caesar would have apologized he might not have been stabbed 23 times. If John the Baptist (Baptizer) would have simply apologized to Herod, Herodias, Salome he might not have been beheaded.
Caesar might be a bad example, but if Jesus would have simply stopped and apologized he might have lived, but none of them would have been remembered in the same light would they?
