GonzoFest 2016 could prove to be the biggest one yet, as Hunter Thompson’s immediate family have announced they will be participating.
Thompson’s son Juan Thompson, Juan’s wife Jennifer Winkel Thompson, their son Will Thompson & longtime Thompson family friend Deborah Fuller will be special guests next year at GonzoFest Louisville.
Juan Thompson will present the Keynote Address at the annual celebration. His book on the life of his father, Hunter S. Thompson, will be released in January 2016. The book, “Stories I Tell Myself,” is available for pre-order here.
According to Amazon, “Juan F. Thompson tells the story of father and son, of their getting to know each other during their forty-one fraught years together. He writes of the many dark, scary times; of how far they ricocheted away from each other, and how they found their way back together before it was too late.” Hunter reportedly instructed Juan to tell the whole story, warts and all, after he was gone.
In addition, Jennifer and Juan have joined forces with GonzoFest Louisville as members of the Production Team, making them an integral part of planning and production of the annual Fest..
GonzoFest Louisville is held the first Saturday in April in Hunter’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. It was founded five years ago by Dennie Humphrey & Ron Whitehead as a celebration of the Life & Work of Louisville native son Hunter S. Thompson.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has officially proclaimed that on the day of GonzoFest Louisville the city’s name is changed to Hunter’s Gonzoville. The giant Hunter’s Gonzoville banner, with art by Ralph Steadman, is permanently placed on the side of The Bristol Bar & Grille, Bardstown Road, in the heart of The Highlands where Hunter grew up. A statue honoring Hunter is also scheduled to be erected in Louisville, and Whitehead is working on bringing the double-thumbed fist tower used at Hunter’s funeral to Louisville to erect as a permanent monument.
