Shooting on Live TV News Bridgewater Plaza TV WBJ7 Moneta, Va
Two television journalists were shot and killed this morning by a former co-worker during a live broadcast in Virginia. Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and her videographer, Adam Ward, 27, were conducting an interview with a local official, who was wounded in the attack. The suspect, Vester Flanagan, was a former co-worker who died in custody after being found along a highway with a life-threatening, self-inflicted gunshot wound following the shooting.
Flanagan was reportedly upset about the church shooting in Charleston earlier this summer, after which he said he purchased two firearms. He also is said to have had a history of anger over race issues in the workplace, was once fired for threatening colleagues and even described himself in a lengthy letter on the eve of the shootings as as a “human powder keg”
According to Franklin County Sheriff Department’s Spokesperson Phillip Young, the shooting occurred at the Bedford County-Franklin County line in Moneta at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 26.
