The Volvo commercial quoted Kerouac
who, rucksacked and sandaled,
was told go moan for man,
hopped boxcars boxcars boxcars,
leaned his thumb down lonely highways,
often took the bus –
Or left the driving to Neal,
who killed a Cadillac,
manhandled a Hudson
& psychedelic Harvester,
wound up wandering down the tracks on a Mexicali night –
Speed Limit speeded up & disappeared,
while Jack drew his last wretch over a cold porcelain bowl
the Americaneon mourning streets flickered somber television blue,
sheltered unaware and unconcerned,
empty eyes and clouded tubes.
