By Clayton Luce
There was a sizable crowd down at the Louisville Free Public Library today for the live readings and performances by Ron Whitehead, his mother Greta and some of his children performing live as Mama’s Opry Band. The performances were followed by book signings and photograph opportunities.
The event was held to promote the latest book by the mother/son duo, Mama: A Poet’s Heart in a Kentucky Girl, which hearkens readers back to another, older time when Coal was King and the misty mountains of Eastern Kentucky were giving birth to a form of music and life known as Bluegrass.
Ron and Greta talk about Ron’s father, coal mining, Mr. Peabody, hunting, living and loving; a poetic record that paints a nostalgic picture of life of Coal Country in the early 20th Century.
The book is currently available for purchase, and this was the final signing event currently planned for Louisville.
