Ah, Germany. The country I was born and raised in. Full of beautiful landscapes, enchanting forests, mesmerizing villages, and radical right-wing hatred.
Yes, the tour guides often leave out that last bit, but it’s getting to be an increasingly bigger problem – we have PEGIDA, LEGIDA, HOGESA, and what not, all rallying to drum up support for the same basic concept: getting everything not German out of Germany as quickly as possible because it dilutes the culture.
The extent to which this issue has nested in German society could be seen on Monday when an infamous organization called PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the Occident) made its 1-year-anniversary march in the German city of Dresden. The march itself was a festive event attended by some 15-20,000 people and filled with hate speech, an excessive amount of German flags, and chants like “Out! Out!”
It gets even better. One of the speakers was Turkish-born Akif Pirincci, who is in all likelihood the only person with such a name who gets in front of a crowd in Germany to say that he finds it unfortunate that concentration camps are no longer operable. Pirincci also says that politicians are ignoring grassroots concerns about immigrants. Well, he’s damn fucking right they’re ignoring people who talk about concentration camps and whose leader dresses up as Hitler for fun. I mean, there is a huge difference between Jewish or Black comedians acting like that deranged Austrian motherfucker and the founder and leader of an anti-Islamic, right-wing organization doing it.
It goes on. In a recent publication by the worst and most brain-dead German tabloid, the Bild, one can see the amount of radical garbage that some people feel the need to spew out on social media, ranging from telling refugees to go back where they came from, to telling them to go to the concentration camp sites and wait for the ovens to be heated up. What the actual fuck? Let me apologize right now, on behalf of any German with a brain, for those blinded, hate-filled, ignorant, racist, idiotic, fucked-up pieces of shit.
Unfortunately, aforementioned pieces of shit have the right to vote, and the political polls reflect just that, showing a steep rise in voters for anti-immigration parties like the AfD and flat out right-wing parties like the NPD. Support for German chancellor Angela Merkel has also dropped significantly, which is something I would normally enjoy seeing, but not under these circumstances.
For all of these reasons, German Cabinet Ministers have, according to Reuters, warned of a rise in right-wing ideology and xenophobia in Germany, urging Germans to “take a stand against hate,” which is honestly a little laughable in my eyes seeing as this problem has been around for over a year, and, yes, it has even increased in size since then — not surprisingly, as fuel is constantly thrown into the fire of xenophobia with over 800,000 refugees expected to be in Germany by the end of the year.
Now of course some fears and issues that motivated those right-winged fucks are legitimate. There is a problem with rape and sexual offenses in refugee shelters, it is getting increasingly hard to build and sustain such shelters, and the influx of people is massive. That being said, aren’t these minor, petty, first-world problems that are in no relation whatsoever to the hardship those poor souls from Syria endured? How the fuck can we Germans be so selfish as to think that the refugees are here because they like the damn German weather so much?
The most common misconception the xenophobes seem to share is that the refugees are just there to abuse the German welfare system. Because a fucking welfare check is obviously all you think about when your fucking town is being bombed and people are being beheaded around you. Right.
Anyhow. The refugee issue is certainly a conundrum that will need solving soon. All that is happening now is an extreme polarization within the German citizenship. That is extremely fucking dangerous and has led to many an atrocious act performed against the poorest of the poor – people whose houses have been destroyed, people who’ve had to flee across all of Europe to get to a safe haven. And all of that just so some bald freak can pee on them and destroy their temporary homes once more.
We don’t need patriotism right now. We don’t need to worry about our oh-so-great fucking culture. What we need right now is to remember that we’re all human beings and that it should be inherent to our nature to help other humans in need. That’s all. And if we Germans cannot even manage to do that, I don’t know where the nation is headed. And I sure as Hell don’t want to find out.
Selah.
