On Saturday, Donald Trump announced to a CNN reporter outside of the Iowa State Fair that, if he deems it necessary, he would be prepared to spend a billion dollars on his presidential campaign.
The real estate billionaire’s campaign is self-funded which is why he says that, unlike other candidates, he does not have to worry about satisfying the interests of lobbyists. In fact, he claims that he recently turned down $5million from a lobbyist. Trump furthermore accuses Jeb Bush of being turned into a “puppet” acting at the whims of his donors to the sum of $100 million.
Trump himself has given to candidates in the past – including Hillary Clinton. He said that he can therefore be sure that they will act at his bidding.
When asked how much he had already spent on his campaign, Trump answered that it was “irrelevant” as he “[makes] $400 million a year”, and said that what he wants to do is “make the country great”. For that purpose he released a position paper on immigrationon NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday morning. The paper contains Trump’s promise to build a wall at the US-Mexican border, which he assures will be near impenetrable and which he propose Mexico pay for. The businessman has uttered many questionable sentences in regard to Mexico, which included a statement about Mexico sending rapists and murderers to the US.
On Meet the Press Trump said America should “get rid of” birthright citizenship. “What they’re doing: They’re having a baby. And all of a sudden, nobody knows … the baby’s here,” he said. He also said undocumented immigrants “have to go,” and vowed to undo President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Trump said that a more detailed proposal regarding immigration and his suggestion on completely altering the current tax code will be released in the coming month.
