These nights
if these nights
are what end up
doing me in
i’m ok with that
because
these nights
are better than
those days
that tend to be
most days
days that I can’t
be me
and speak my mind
or have
a drink
and smoke
a cigarette
or two
and actually listen
to my thoughts
maybe these nights
seem to be
a bad path
but to me
they are
just what I need
to get through
the days
and time
between
* * *
more tonight
my idea
of healthy
differs from those
who claim
to be
my healthy
is a craving
for more
drink
time
and cigarettes
tonight
drink
for the words
time for
the drink
and
cigarettes
to pass
the time
tonight
is now
running low
on all three
and will soon
lose
the luster
it once had
all is well
they say
when it ends well
and thankfully
tomorrow
will bring
a new night
* * *
A thought for now
If known it’s the last
Would we enjoy it?
Think about it more
And revel in now?
If known we couldn’t drink
We could drown tonight.
If known we couldn’t think
We could write tonight.
If known we couldn’t feel
We could love tonight.
For now
It’s a time
To ponder
And strive to wonder
About
The forgotten nights
And hazy days
The in-betweens
and now and thens
Of “What a night”
And “Remember when”
